Exercise is the other crucial component to weight loss. Study after study has shown that a sedentary lifestyle measurable reduces our lifespan and our quality of life. Starting an exercise regime is critical to our well being. Exercise helps us feel energized and it has a number benefits for our overall health. As a personal trainer I can also assist you with starting an fine-tuning your exercise regime.

When you are starting an exercise regime, you need to make sure that you have a balance of cardio, strength training and stretching. They all play a part in overall fitness.

Cardiovascular Exercise is how efficient your hearts and lungs are delivering oxygen to your body and how efficient your body is at creating energy your muscles need in order to contract. As you participate in workouts that elevate your heart rate, your heart will grow stronger and be able to pump more of the life-sustaining blood throughout your body as you walk, bike, row, or run, etc. Cardiovascular exercise is crucial to preventing serious health problems like heart disease, blood clots, diabetes, and respiratory diseases. It involves exercises like running, cycling, dancing, and aerobics, anything that elevates the heart rate and keeps it elevated for the right period of time.

Strength training builds muscle. When properly performed, it can provide significant functional benefits, improvement in overall health and well-being, including increased bone, muscle, tendon, ligament, joint, strength and it reduces the potential for injury, increases metabolism which burns fat and also improves cardiac function. It also helps with endurance and balance. It involves any exercises that require muscle resistance such as weight lifting, crunches, and resistance bands.

Stretching most often takes a “back seat” to our exercise routines. It should not. Any exercise session should begin and end with stretching our muscles to warm them up and cool them down. Stretching can help to improve flexibility and the range of motion in your joints; it also may improve your performance in physical activities, or decrease your risk of injuries by helping your joints move through their full range of motion, enabling muscles to work most effectively. Stretching also increases blood flow to the muscle.
